In short
In the European Union, choriogonadotropin alfa is indicated for women undergoing superovulation prior to assisted reproductive techniques to trigger final follicular maturation and luteinisation after stimulation of follicular growth, as well as to trigger ovulation and luteinisation in anovulatory or oligo-ovulatory women. In the United States, human chorionic gonadotropin is indicated for prepubertal cryptorchidism not due to anatomical obstruction, selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males, and the induction of ovulation and pregnancy in anovulatory, infertile women where the cause is secondary and not due to primary ovarian failure. The United States labeling notes that human chorionic gonadotropin has not been demonstrated to be an effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. Choriogonadotropin alfa is also listed by the cited source as having an approved use for female infertility.

FDA (USA) Pregnyl
INDICATIONS AND USAGE HCG HAS NOT BEEN DEMONSTRATED TO BE EFFECTIVE ADJUNCTIVE THERAPY IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY. THERE IS NO SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE THAT IT INCREASES WEIGHT LOSS BEYOND THAT RESULTING FROM CALORIC RESTRICTION, THAT IT CAUSES A MORE ATTRACTIVE OR “NORMAL” DISTRIBUTION OF FAT, OR THAT IT DECREASES THE HUNGER AND DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH CALORIE-RESTRICTED DIETS. Prepubertal cryptorchidism not due to anatomical obstruction. In general, hCG is thought to induce testicular descent in situations when descent would have occurred at puberty. hCG thus may help predict whether or not orchiopexy will be needed in the future. Although, in some cases, descent following hCG administration is permanent, in most cases, the response is temporary. Therapy is usually instituted in children between the ages of 4 and 9. Selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (hypogonadism secondary to a pituitary deficiency) in males. Induction of ovulation and pregnancy in the anovulatory, infertile woman in whom the cause of anovulation is secondary and not due to primary ovarian failure, and who has been appropriately treated with human gonadotropins.

About this page. This page brings together public information from official sources, each cited where it is used. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it does not tell you which treatment to take.
Treatments. Indications are quoted unchanged from official product information (European Medicines Agency, U.S. Food and Drug Administration). They describe what a medicine is approved for, not whether it is right for you. Approved uses can differ between countries. Always read the package leaflet and follow your doctor's or pharmacist's advice.
