In short
In the European Union, paclitaxel as Abraxane monotherapy is indicated to treat metastatic breast cancer in adults who failed first-line treatment and for whom standard anthracycline-containing therapy is not indicated, while in combination with gemcitabine it is indicated for the first-line treatment of metastatic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. Abraxane in combination with carboplatin is also indicated in the European Union for the first-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer in adults who cannot undergo potentially curative surgery or radiation therapy. In the United States, paclitaxel injection is indicated as subsequent therapy for advanced ovarian carcinoma, as first-line therapy in combination with cisplatin for ovarian carcinoma, and for the adjuvant treatment of node-positive breast cancer sequentially to standard doxorubicin-containing combination chemotherapy. United States indications also include breast cancer treatment after failure of combination chemotherapy for metastatic disease or relapse within 6 months of adjuvant chemotherapy, first-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer in combination with cisplatin for patients who are not candidates for potentially curative surgery or radiation, and second-line treatment of AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma. Additionally, paclitaxel is listed by the cited source as having an approved use for malignant neoplasm of the pancreas.

INDICATIONS AND USAGE Paclitaxel Injection USP is indicated as subsequent therapy for the treatment of advanced carcinoma of the ovary. As first-line therapy, paclitaxel injection is indicated in combination with cisplatin. Paclitaxel Injection USP is indicated for the adjuvant treatment of node-positive breast cancer administered sequentially to standard doxorubicin-containing combination chemotherapy. In the clinical trial, there was an overall favorable effect on disease-free and overall survival in the total population of patients with receptor-positive and receptor-negative tumors, but the benefit has been specifically demonstrated by available data (median follow-up 30 months) only in the patients with estrogen and progesterone receptor-negative tumors (see CLINICAL STUDIES, Breast Carcinoma ). Paclitaxel Injection USP is indicated for the treatment of breast cancer after failure of combination chemotherapy for metastatic disease or relapse within 6 months of adjuvant chemotherapy. Prior therapy should have included an anthracycline unless clinically contraindicated. Paclitaxel Injection USP, in combination with cisplatin, is indicated for the first-line treatment of non-small cell lung cancer in patients who are not candidates for potentially curative surgery and/or radiation therapy. Paclitaxel Injection USP is indicated for the second-line treatment of AIDS-related Kaposi’s sarcoma.

About this page. This page brings together public information from official sources, each cited where it is used. It is not medical advice, it is not a diagnosis, and it does not tell you which treatment to take.
Treatments. Indications are quoted unchanged from official product information (European Medicines Agency, U.S. Food and Drug Administration). They describe what a medicine is approved for, not whether it is right for you. Approved uses can differ between countries. Always read the package leaflet and follow your doctor's or pharmacist's advice.
What people report. Figures marked "reported by Anpheros users" are anonymous counts from at least 20 people who agreed to share them. They show what people report, not what works, and they are not clinical evidence.
