Patient matching
Patient matching is the process of deciding whether two records from different systems belong to the same person, by comparing demographics (name, birth date, sex, address) deterministically or probabilistically.
Countries with a national health identifier (France's INS, the NHS number) need far less of it; without one, matching errors are a leading cause of mixed-up records.
