De-identification

Updated

De-identification is the US HIPAA term for removing identifiers from health data, by the Safe Harbor method (removing 18 listed identifiers) or by Expert Determination of very small re-identification risk.

It is weaker than GDPR anonymisation, so data de-identified for HIPAA may still be personal data in the EU.
