HL7
Health Level Seven International
HL7 is the standards organisation, founded in 1987, that publishes HL7 v2, CDA and FHIR; the name refers to layer 7 (the application layer) of the OSI network model.
When someone says a system "speaks HL7" they almost always mean HL7 v2 messaging, so it is worth asking which standard they mean.
