HL7 v2

Health Level Seven version 2

Updated

HL7 v2 is the pipe-delimited messaging standard, first published in 1989, that hospital systems still use to send admissions, orders and results to each other.

A message is a list of segments (MSH, PID, OBR, OBX) carried over MLLP, and it remains the most common interface inside hospitals even where FHIR is used outside.
