QIDO-RS
Query based on ID for DICOM Objects by RESTful Services
QIDO-RS is the DICOMweb search service: a GET on /studies, /series or /instances with query parameters (patient ID, date, modality) returns matching metadata as JSON or XML.
It answers "which studies exist for this patient?" without downloading any images.
