Bearable alternatives: symptom trackers compared by what you need (Migraine Buddy, CareClinic, Flaredown, Apple Health and a health record)

Bearable alternatives compared by the job you need done: tracking any symptom fast, a report your doctor can read, symptoms next to medications and lab results, a family member's symptoms, and data you can take elsewhere. Migraine Buddy, CareClinic, Flaredown, Apple Health, a paper diary and a personal health record, with an honest table and where each one stops.

In short: Bearable is a strong mood and symptom tracker, and its free version already tracks unlimited custom symptoms with CSV export; people look for an alternative when they need something it does not do well for them. That is usually a report a doctor reads in two minutes, symptoms kept next to medications and lab results, a family member's symptoms, or a record that travels to another clinic or country. Pick by that job: a condition-specific app (Migraine Buddy, Flaredown), a broad tracker (CareClinic, Bearable), the health app already on your phone, or a personal health record with a symptom diary.

Most searches for a Bearable alternative are not complaints about Bearable. They are about one need: a report the doctor will actually read, a tracker that also holds the medicines and blood tests that explain the symptoms, a child's or a parent's symptoms, or data that can leave the app. This guide takes those needs one by one, names the apps honestly and ends with a table. Anpheros Daily is one of the apps named; we say what it does and does not do. None of these apps diagnoses, and neither does this page.

What a symptom tracker needs to do

A symptom tracker has five jobs: let you log a symptom in seconds, record intensity, time and body location, show a pattern over weeks, put that pattern next to what might explain it (medicines, sleep, cycle, results), and turn it into something a doctor reads in the ten minutes of an appointment. Most apps do the first three; the last two separate them.

The report matters more than the charts. A doctor rarely has time to scroll an app; a one-page summary with dates, intensity and what changed is what gets used. Our guide on How to Track Symptoms for Your Doctor (and What App to Use) explains what that page should contain.

Bearable: what it does well and where people look elsewhere

Bearable tracks symptoms, mood, sleep, medications and habits and shows correlations between them, on iPhone and Android. According to Bearable's own support page, the free version includes unlimited custom symptoms, calendar and timeline views, widgets and export of all data to CSV; Premium adds PDF export, more reports and correlation features. Premium is a subscription, priced by country in the app stores.

People move on for three reasons: the doctor-ready PDF is in Premium, the app is built around mood and habits rather than a medical history, and it does not hold lab results, documents or another person's record. If your need is mood and habit tracking with insights, Bearable is hard to beat.

Migraine Buddy and Flaredown: built for one condition

Condition-specific apps are better than general trackers for their condition. Migraine Buddy is designed around headache attacks: start and end, intensity, location, triggers, medication taken and its effect, with reports for a neurologist. Flaredown is a free, open-source tracker for chronic and autoimmune conditions, with conditions, symptoms, treatments and triggers logged daily.

The limit is the same for both: they track one kind of problem well and little else. If you have migraines plus a second condition, or you need the record to include results and letters, you end up with two or three apps.

CareClinic and the broad trackers

CareClinic is a broad health tracker: symptoms, medications with reminders, measurements, diary and a care-team view, with reports. Third-party reviews describe a free version with limits and most features in a Premium subscription; check the current plans in the app before relying on that. Visible, Juno and similar apps focus on chronic fatigue, long COVID or pacing.

Broad trackers fit people who want everything logged in one place on the phone. What they rarely do is hold the record itself: lab reports, discharge letters and imaging reports, in a format another clinic can read.

Apple Health, Samsung Health and Health Connect

The health app already on your phone can log some symptoms (Apple Health has a Symptoms section; Samsung Health and Health Connect focus on measurements) next to steps, sleep and heart rate from a watch. It is free and private to the phone, and on an iPhone you can share selected categories with another iPhone user.

It is not built as a symptom diary for a doctor: there is no report designed for an appointment, and it does not manage another person's symptoms on a different phone. How Apple Health compares with a full record is in Apple Health Alternatives 2026: Android, Family, Export.

Symptoms next to the rest of your health record

A personal health record with a symptom diary keeps symptoms in the same place as medications, lab results, documents and appointments, so a pattern can be read next to what might explain it: a new medicine, a changed result, a stressful week. That is the job a symptom-only app does not do.

Anpheros Daily works this way. You log a symptom in a sentence, by voice or from a photo, with intensity and body location on a 3D body; the timeline shows symptoms, medications and results together; a one-page report goes to the doctor; family members each have their own profile; and the record exports as FHIR R4 and the International Patient Summary, which other systems can read. It is free for personal use, on the web and Mac, with iPhone and Android in beta. It shows patterns and similarities, never a diagnosis; the cause is for your doctor.

How to choose

Start from the job. Mood and habits with insights: Bearable. One condition, such as migraine: the app built for it. Everything on the phone with reminders: a broad tracker. Symptoms that need to sit next to results, medicines, letters and another family member's record, and travel to any doctor: a personal health record with a symptom diary.

Whatever you choose, log the same way every day, write down what changed, and bring one page to the appointment. A printable symptom diary that needs no app is linked at the end of this page.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Bearable?

Yes. Flaredown is free and open source for chronic and autoimmune conditions; the health app on your phone is free; Anpheros Daily is free for personal use, including the symptom diary and the report for the doctor. Bearable itself is free for unlimited symptoms and CSV export; Premium adds PDF reports and more insights.

Bearable vs Migraine Buddy: which is better?

For migraines alone, Migraine Buddy, because it is built around attacks, triggers and the medicine taken during each one. For several symptoms, mood and habits together, Bearable. If you need both plus your results and letters, a personal health record keeps them in one place.

Which symptom tracker is best for showing my doctor?

The one that produces a short, dated summary of intensity, frequency and what changed, next to your current medicines. Bearable's PDF is in Premium; Migraine Buddy and CareClinic have reports; Anpheros Daily produces a one-page summary for free. A printed diary works too.

Can a symptom tracker tell me what is wrong?

No, and a good one does not try. A tracker records what happened and shows patterns; the cause is for a doctor to assess. Apps that guess a diagnosis from symptoms are symptom checkers, a different tool with different limits.
