Short answer: ChatGPT Health is a separate health space inside ChatGPT, announced by OpenAI in January 2026. Health conversations are kept apart from your other chats, and in the United States adults can connect medical records and Apple Health so the answers take their history into account. It explains and summarises; OpenAI says it is not meant for diagnosis or treatment. Connecting records is US-only, adults only, and records you move into a consumer app are no longer protected by HIPAA. Outside the US, you can still ask ChatGPT about health, carefully, and keep your full record in a place you control, which you can then connect to an AI assistant on your terms.

At a glance
| What it is | A health space in ChatGPT, with its own memory, separate from other chats |
|---|---|
| Connected records | US only: medical records from US providers and Apple Health on iPhone |
| Who | Adults 18+, on the web and iOS, where available |
| Does | Explains results, summarises visits, prepares questions; read-only on connected data |
| Does not | Diagnose, treat, or write back to your records |
| Privacy | Records in a consumer app are outside HIPAA; OpenAI's terms apply |
| Outside the US | Ask carefully without identifiers, and keep your record in an app you control |
What ChatGPT Health does
People already ask ChatGPT about their health at enormous scale: OpenAI reported in January 2026 that more than 40 million people a day ask it health questions, most often about symptoms, test results and conditions, and seven in ten of those conversations happen outside clinic hours. ChatGPT Health gives these conversations their own space. Health chats have separate memory, and OpenAI says connected health data is not used to train its models.
In the US, you can connect medical records from participating providers and Apple Health data from an iPhone. ChatGPT can then summarise lab results, visit notes and care history and answer questions in the context of your own data. The connection is read-only: ChatGPT reads, it does not change your records.
What it does not do
- It does not diagnose or treat. OpenAI describes it as support for understanding, not a medical service, and consumer AI products are not regulated as medical devices.
- It does not fix incomplete records. Imports can be partial, delayed or duplicated, with units that do not match; the answer is only as good as the data.
- It does not work everywhere. Connected records are for adults in the US. Children's records, other countries' health systems and Android health data are outside its scope.
What happens to your data
When records leave your doctor's system and enter a consumer app, US privacy law for healthcare (HIPAA) no longer covers them; the app's own terms do. Lawyers have pointed out that data held by a consumer service can be requested in legal proceedings like any other account data. None of this means you should not use it; it means you should decide what to connect, and know how to disconnect. Our guide ChatGPT, Claude and your health data lists the settings to check.
If you live outside the US
In Europe, the UK and most of the world, ChatGPT cannot connect to your medical records. Three things still work well:
- Ask carefully. Type the values with their units, reference ranges and dates, and leave out your name, date of birth and record numbers. The free question builder does this for you.
- Keep your record in one place you control. Anpheros Daily keeps lab results, medicines, symptoms, measurements and documents from any country, in 20 languages, with data stored in the EU. You decide who sees what, for how long.
- Connect an AI on your terms. The Anpheros Health connector lets Claude read the parts of your record you allow, read-only, and lets ChatGPT save notes, symptoms and measurements into your record without reading it. See how to connect ChatGPT to your health record and the Claude connector.

Frequently asked questions
Is ChatGPT Health available in Europe or the UK?
Connecting medical records and Apple Health is limited to adults in the US. You can still ask ChatGPT health questions anywhere, without connecting records.
Is ChatGPT Health free?
Availability and plans are set by OpenAI and change over time; check ChatGPT's own settings. Anpheros Daily has a free plan for your own record.
Can ChatGPT Health diagnose me?
No. It explains and summarises. Diagnosis needs an examination, your history and often further tests, by a clinician.
Is my data safe in ChatGPT Health?
It is protected by OpenAI's terms and security, not by HIPAA. Connect only what you need, review the privacy settings, and disconnect sources you no longer use.
Can ChatGPT read my Anpheros record?
No, by design. The Anpheros connector lets ChatGPT send notes, symptoms and measurements to your record as proposals that you accept or reject; reading your record is available to Claude, read-only, with your permission.
Try it in Anpheros Daily
Connect your Anpheros record to Claude: you choose what it may read, and you can stop it at any time.
