HIPAA minimum necessary standard
Minimum necessary is the HIPAA Privacy Rule standard that requires covered entities to limit uses, disclosures and requests of protected health information to the minimum needed for the purpose.
It does not apply to disclosures for treatment or to the patient, and in practice it is implemented through role-based access policies and standard protocols for routine disclosures.
