HIPAA Privacy Rule
HIPAA Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information
The HIPAA Privacy Rule is the US federal rule that sets when covered entities and business associates may use and disclose protected health information, in any form, and the rights patients have over it.
It allows use for treatment, payment and health care operations, requires authorisation for most other purposes, and gives patients rights to access, copies and an accounting of disclosures.
