RBAC

Role-based access control

Updated

RBAC is an access control model in which permissions are granted to roles, such as nurse, physician or billing clerk, and users receive access through the roles assigned to them.

In health IT it is often combined with attribute-based rules, such as care relationship, consent or purpose of use, and with break-the-glass for emergencies.
