DICOM Transfer Syntax
A transfer syntax is the set of encoding rules for a DICOM object, covering implicit or explicit VR, byte order and pixel compression such as JPEG, JPEG 2000 or JPEG-LS, and each one is identified by a UID.
Sender and receiver agree on one when an association is negotiated, and a viewer that does not support a study's transfer syntax cannot decode its images.
