Value Representation (VR)

DICOM Value Representation

Updated

The value representation is the two-letter data type of a DICOM data element, such as PN for a person name, DA for a date, UI for a unique identifier, CS for a code string or SQ for a nested sequence.

It sets the format and maximum length of the value, and in explicit-VR transfer syntaxes it is written in the file next to each tag.
