TLS
Transport Layer Security
TLS is the protocol that encrypts and authenticates data in transit, such as calls to a FHIR API or messages between hospital systems, and is the S in HTTPS.
FHIR expects all exchange of production data to use TLS, and with mutual TLS both client and server present certificates, which is how IHE ATNA authenticates nodes.
