FHIR security labels (meta.security)

Updated

Security labels are codes attached to a FHIR resource or Bundle in meta.security that describe how sensitive it is and how it may be handled, for example a confidentiality level of restricted.

Access control engines read them together with consent and provenance to decide what to release; handling codes such as do-not-reuse or delete-after-use travel with the data to the recipient.
